Shina and Nev, an itch that needs scratching.
Shina and Nev have not made their appearance yet in the comic, but wow do I want to do a story with them. Even a short one. But I have at least a month before this curent story line is over and I can fit a filler in. Fortunately Karl’s about to go on a rampage and thats going to be a lot of fun to draw. Maybe I could o my own Sunday filler with some of the unknown characters.

Yes, I bet this is going to be fun to see Karl literally go berzerk tearing the ship to pieces, and especially go after that pompous ass who insulted Kalif!
I hope you’ll gently do a little illiteracy education with this storyline, Darin, as we all could see that Karl can’t read. I know for alot of adults who’re functionally illiterate admitting the problem is the biggest step!

I don’t really believe so far that Karl can’t read. I used to work in inventory at my dad’s shop, and let me tell you, those inventory check sheets are darn near impossible to read half the time, because people are in such hurries writing them. You might be literate enough that The Divine Comedy is an evening’s relaxing reading, and still be unable to decipher a hastily scribbled inventory log. Especially written with a fountain pen.
And who knows, too–the Captain may have written them in Dutch, which looks frustratingly close to English but doesn’t quite become readable for a non-Dutch-speaker. Couple that with the handwriting factor, and then any monolingual English speaker is in trouble.
The expression on his face looked to me like he was trying to figure out “Okay…does…is that an S? No, it’s an F… Okay, I’m gonna guess that “Theeverlofen–twee dozijn ponden” comes out to mean two dozen pounds of tea leaves…check…”
At least that was my take, having done a fair bit of stocking-work and looking at shipping manifests–albeit manifests for trucks instead of seagoing vessels.
